Iran to host UNESCO workshop on memory of world
TEHRAN, Dec. 14 (MNA) -- Iran’s National Library and Archives (INLA) will be playing host to the first International workshop of Memory of the World Program opening on January 17, 2010.

Directors of the national libraries of Turkey and Zimbabwe accompanied by several experts will be attending the 3-day workshop, said manager of INLA Public Relations Office, Hamed Yari.

Also participating in the program are several students from Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan Republic, Kazakhstan, and South Africa.

UNESCO launched the Memory of the World Program to guard against collective amnesia calling for the preservation of valuable archives and library collections all over the world to ensure their widespread dissemination.

“This is the first time the workshop is arranged as an international event. The previous two editions were held nationally,” he remarked.

“The issue is of high interest for Turkey since they have not yet had a workshop in the Memory of the World Program so far,” he added.

Invited guests will also have a chance to visit the holy city of Mashhad and Astan-e Qods Razavi Library and Museum.
