Turkish harpists to play Tafreshipur’s works
TEHRAN, Jan. 16 (MNA) -- Turkish harp virtuosos will perform solo compositions by Iranian musician Mahyar Tafreshipur during a ceremony in memory of the late harpist Fatma Ceren Necipoglu.

The Art of the Harp Association members will play the pieces during a ceremony to be held at Istanbul’s Cemal Resit Rey Concert Hall on January 18. 

 

Necipoglu (1973 - 2009) was a Turkish harpist and university lecturer for piano and harp. She was on board Air France Flight 447 when it disappeared over the Atlantic Ocean on 1 June 2009.

 

 

Iranian culture minister attends European Capital of Culture ceremony in Istanbul

 

TEHRAN -- Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini attended the opening ceremony of the 2010 European Capital of Culture in Istanbul on Saturday.

 

Hosseini attended the event following an invitation from his Turkish counterpart Ertugrul Günay and was officially welcomed by the Turkish official at Istanbul’s airport.

 

Istanbul officially becomes the 2010 European Capital of Culture with an opening ceremony and other events on January 16.
