Alizadeh and Hamavayan bring down the house
TEHRAN, Sept. 8 (MNA) -- Tar virtuoso Hossein Alizadeh along with his back-up band Hamavayan gave performances on three consecutive evenings at Tehran’s National Grand Hall from September 5 to 7.

Alizadeh, who has previously given concerts with the titan of traditional Iranian music Mohammadreza Shajarian and master of the kamancheh, Kayhan Kalhor, was this time performing with the new Hamavayan band, MNA reported.

The stage was designed more simply than in previous concerts held at the location, comprising a blue curtain at the back of the stage, two kilims on the floor and a set of chairs.

The concert took the same form each night with the first section dedicated to a duet performance by Alizadeh on the tar and Majid Khalaj on the tonbak.

The second section, named “Song of a Flower”, comprised a group performance. As Alizadeh had previously mentioned in a press conference, this section was slightly unusual in that it focused on group singing, rather than a group musical performance, and was an arrangement using four vocalists and eight musicians.

The tasnif “Song of Honor”, beginning with a duet recital by the vocalist Afsaneh Rasaii and Raheleh Barzegari, and continuing with the accompaniment of other singers, was one of the best of the group works in the second section.

Later, Alizadeh, who had composed all the tasnifs himself, gave an excellent performance of the pieces entitled, Isfahank, Aquamarine Flowers, and Song of a Flower.

The band comprised Ali Samadpur, Purya Akhavas, Mohammadreza Ebrahimi, Ali Bustan, Payam Jahanmani, Nima Alizadeh, Saba Alizadeh, and Negar Kharkan.
